Employment Equity &
Economic Opportunity for All Detroiters
What We Do
Employment Equity Learning and Action Collaborative (EELAC) facilitates systems-level change and influences the practices of individual organizations to respond to worker needs and aspirations. We provide monthly forums for workforce and economic development entities, initiatives, and activists to explore data, research, and best practices as a community. Together, we strategize and develop plans of action to solve problems related to career readiness, access, and advancement.

Why We Do It
Despite its rich history and diverse population, stark unemployment disparities persist in the heart of Detroit. Communities of color face disproportionately higher rates of unemployment and underemployment as well as the challenges of systemic racism. By limiting economic opportunities for individuals and families, these circumstances hinder the city’s growth and potential as a whole. The causes of these disparities are complex, which is why there is a critical need for a Collective Impact Approach to drive meaningful change.
Our Collective Impact Approach brings together nonprofits, government entities, businesses, educational institutions, and community members to work towards employment equity for the city. Together, we work to dismantle systemic barriers, promote diversity and inclusion, and create a future of equitable access to meaningful opportunities and shared prosperity for all Detroiters.
